Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy
Do you suck your thumb?
Do you snore?
Are you a mouth-breather?
Do you have TMJ?
Are you tongue tied?
If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, you may be a candidate for orofacial myofunctional therapy.
Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMD) involve deficits in the structure and function of the oral-motor mechanism that includes the tongue, lips, mandible, maxilla, dentition, pharynx, etc. and any combination that creates an obstructed airway. Deficits often cause problems in speech and swallowing. Many times outcomes of OMD cause disorders in sleeping (sleep apnea or dyspnea), behavior (ADD/ADHD), and learning. Therapeutic programs are individually designed to alter oral-facial structures and functions in order to improve speech and swallowing.
INTERACTIVE METRONOME (IM)
IM is an assessment and treatment tool used with children and adults with neurological conditions that affect cognitive and motor functioning. IM provides an objective method for measuring deficits and for tracking improvement. This evidence-based, therapeutic program is designed to help participants recognize progress as it is occurring and increase motivation toward goals for improving: Attention; Coordination; Language Processing; Reading and Math Fluency; and Impulse Control.
INTEGRATED Listening Systems (iLs)
This systematic program may be beneficial for people who want to improve cognitive skills, like reading, writing, concentration, memory, visual and/or auditory processing, organization, movement, and coordination. iLs uses a multi-sensory approach to foster brain reorganization or neuroplasticity. This is the brain's ability to reorganize neural networks and create new pathways when stimulated through targeted activities to improve cognitive functioning. Therapeutic programs are individually designed to address deficits in cognitive skills based on needs and disorders, such as, learning disability, autism, traumatic brain injury, stroke, language impairments, motor-speech impairments, among others.
CompleteSpeech
The CompleteSpeech program uses a SmartPalate to provide tactile-kinesthetic and visual feedback of tongue-to-palate contact. This feedback enhances proper placement of the tongue during speech and articulation drills in the production of speech sounds. The SmartPalate is customized based on a mold of the dentition and palate of the participant. This creates a securely fitting device that allows for the direct visualization of tongue-to-palate contact on a customizable graphic representation.
In many cases, participants experience a shorter duration in speech therapy compared to the number of session attended when traditional methods are used alone.
LEAP! Program
An alternative intervention for ADD/ADHD
Program Administrators: Dr. Michele Norman and Dr. Joseph Sandford
http://www.braintrain.com
The LEAP! Program will provide an alternative intervention to persons with ADD/ADHD using artifact free EEG biofeedback with cognitive training to increase attention and memory skills. Research shows that physical exercise and good nutrition increases cognitive performance and deceases risk of obesity and related illness. Therefore, the LEAP! Program will include low impact exercise and nutritional information to optimize your cognitive benefit from the training. LEAP! Program combines academic enrichment and mental and physical fitness using cognitive training programs from BrainTrain.
